SELENBP1 (selenium binding protein 1) encodes an intracellular protein originally identified for its ability to bind selenium and implicated in methanethiol oxidation and intracellular protein trafficking. An intronic SELENBP1 variant (rs2769264) was identified in a genome-wide association study of trace-mineral levels as a locus influencing circulating blood copper concentration.
